These annexes accompany the Guidance for Monitoring SMOSS to provide additional details on indicators, core and expanded questions and tools for designing monitoring systems to collect data for SDG 6.2.1. These annexes have been developed as part of the Monitoring SMOSS pilot project and are informed by the pilots conducted in ten countries as part of this project as well as other global examples of monitoring of safely managed sanitation services. Annex C details the household level sanitation inspections which are direct observations of sanitation facilities to assess risks. This annex provides core questions on containment, expanded questions on facility condition and risk, and real-world inspection examples from countries like Ireland and France. It also includes templates and sampling advice to help countries assess whether sanitation systems are functioning safely.
