Brief summary

This document describes the methods used by the JMP to produce estimates for drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene services in households. Global indicators are defined, and the structure of composite indicators is described with illustrative examples.

As for JMP estimates of WASH in health care facilities and WASH in schools, a set of standard steps are followed:

  • Identification of data sources
  • Data extraction, cleaning and pre-processing
  • Producing draft country estimates
  • Country consultation and estimate finalization
  • Producing regional and global aggregate estimates
